Study reveals the most popular first dance choices for 2017

Chart-topping artist Ed Sheeran has been voted the UK's most popular first dance choice for the second year running, proving that the British singer's loved-up lyrics continue to strike a chord with couples.

Whether you’ll be waltzing your way around the floor or doing the foxtrot for your first dance, Ed Sheeran has been voted the nation’s top choice for couples’ first dance songs, according to a new survey.

The study, which was carried out by VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, revealed that the UK’s favourite first dance artist was the ‘Thinking Out Loud’ singer, closely followed by the likes of John Legend, Adele, Beyoncé and Michael Bublé.

Never failing to provide a beautifully romantic ballad, Ed Sheeran was also top of the list in 2016, with 11 per cent of newlyweds choosing a song by him for their first dance as Mr and Mrs.

Seemingly the king of the charts and also the wedding dance floor, Ed Sheeran’s popularity for the all-important wedding dance is no mean feat as the study also revealed choosing the perfect first dance song was in the top three biggest decisions for budding brides and grooms.

Spokesperson for VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, George Charles, said: ‘It may sound trivial, but choosing your first dance music is a big decision. You’re going to enter married life dancing along to this song, your guests are going to want to dance along to this song, and you need to find one that you feel does justice in showcasing how much you both love each other.’
